WattAnyWhere – Turning ethanol to fast charging

Green hydrogen for off-grid electric vehicle charging

WattAnyWhere (WaW) has developed an innovative off-grid EV charging solution that enables fast charging without the need for costly grid expansion. By using renewable ethanol, which is already available at many refueling stations, the system can provide reliable charging at both existing fuel stations and new locations.

A key component of the solution is Metacon’s proprietary reforming technology, which converts ethanol into hydrogen for on-site power generation. Drawing on its expertise in hydrogen production systems and reformer design, Metacon developed and manufactured the reforming unit that enables the charging stations to operate independently of the electrical grid.

The project demonstrates how Metacon’s reforming technology can be applied beyond traditional industrial hydrogen production, enabling new applications that support the transition to cleaner and more flexible energy solutions.
