Installed cost matters, but besides the “consumables cost” for water and electricity, LCOH is shaped by a wider set of factors such as stack efficiency, operating flexibility, durability, uptime, maintenance needs and the amount of hydrogen a system can reliably produce during its lifetime.
The new PERIC stack design offers up to 17% higher operating current density and up to 13% lower cell-plate weight compared with the previous reference design. Higher current density supports more production capacity from the stack, while lower cell-plate weight reduces material use. This can contribute to lower CAPEX at stack level, but the broader importance is how these improvements help reduce the total cost of producing hydrogen.
This is important at a time when many green hydrogen projects are still facing uncertainty around contracted offtake, regulation and financing. Lower LCOH makes projects easier to justify commercially. If production costs come down, more projects can move from planning to investment decision and from investment decision to operation.
A functioning green hydrogen market will depend on more available production capacity, not only on a limited number of very large pipeline projects. Even with conservative assumptions, the potential market is substantial across industrial processes, energy systems, transport applications and chemical production. More competitive electrolysis technology can help make that market easier to build.

The new stack technologies will be used in all projects and products, from containerised electrolyser systems to larger 10MW modules.
