Mechanical engineer – Piping & Plant Layout to Metacon

About the position

Do you want to contribute to the development of future hydrogen systems and work with mechanical solutions that make advanced energy projects function in practice?

Metacon is a leading energy technology company specializing in innovative solutions for the production of green hydrogen. With a strong technology base and ambitious growth plans, Metacon plays an important role in the transition towards fossil-free energy systems for industry and transport.

We are now looking for a Mechanical Engineer with focus on piping, plant layout and mechanical integration. This is a role for you who enjoy working close to real industrial applications, where mechanical design, piping, equipment layout and practical engineering decisions are central to successful project delivery.

At Metacon, you will become part of a highly competent and collaborative engineering environment with short decision paths and great opportunities to contribute. You will work closely with colleagues within process, electrical, automation, instrumentation, project management and procurement, as well as with suppliers, partners and customers.

Responsibilities

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Develop and coordinate General Arrangement drawings, equipment layouts, 2D drawings, 3D models and related mechanical design documentation.
  • Develop and coordinate piping layouts, pipe routing and mechanical interfaces and integration of hydrogen systems, utilities and balance-of-plant equipment.
  • Define and coordinate interfaces between containers, skids, compressors, storage systems, refuelling systems, utility systems and customer/site scope.
  • Review and provide input to P&IDs, layouts, supplier documentation and technical documentation from a mechanical and piping perspective.
  • Contribute to piping specifications, pipe classes, material selections, pipe support concepts and mechanical design assumptions.
  • Participate in design reviews, 3D model reviews, constructability reviews and project risk reviews.
  • Support RFQs, supplier clarifications and technical bid evaluations for mechanical equipment, piping, valves, fittings and related systems.
  • Provide technical support during manufacturing, installation, mechanical completion, commissioning and handover.
  • Contribute to engineering standards, lessons learned and reusable design solutions for future projects.

Your profile

We are looking for someone with experience from mechanical engineering, piping engineering, plant layout or mechanical integration in industrial projects. You may come from process industry, energy, gas, water treatment, pharma, industrial consulting or another environment where technical systems, piping, equipment layout and interfaces are central.

You likely have a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Energy Engineering, Process Engineering or a related field. More importantly, you have a practical understanding of how mechanical systems are designed, integrated, installed and maintained in industrial environments.

We believe you have:

  • Several years of experience from mechanical engineering, piping engineering or plant/layout engineering in industrial projects.
  • Experience developing or coordinating 2D layouts, equipment arrangements, piping routes and mechanical interfaces.
  • Experience with 2D design tools and the ability to work with or review 3D models.
  • Good understanding of piping systems, pipe routing, pipe supports, valves, fittings, materials and mechanical integration.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering documentation such as P&IDs, GA drawings, layouts, piping drawings, specifications and supplier documentation.
  • Experience from multidisciplinary engineering projects with internal and external interfaces.
  • Experience working with suppliers, contractors, manufacturing teams or installation teams.
  • Strong communication skills in English, both written and spoken.

It is an advantage if you have experience from hydrogen systems, gas systems, process plants, EPC projects, modular or containerized technical solutions, pressure equipment, relevant EN/ASME standards, PED, CE marking, ATEX or hazardous-area projects. Experience with piping isometrics, material take-offs, pipe stress considerations, FAT/SAT, installation supervision, or Swedish language skills is also meriting.

Personal qualities

To thrive and succeed in this role, we believe that you are structured, practical and solution-oriented. You enjoy working in dynamic projects where all conditions are not always fully defined from the start, and you are able to create structure and progress even when information is incomplete.

You communicate clearly and professionally with colleagues, suppliers and project stakeholders. You are confident enough to ask questions, challenge unclear assumptions and raise concerns when something does not seem to work. At the same time, you contribute constructively to finding practical and safe solutions.

You combine technical attention to detail with a broader project perspective, and you understand the importance of quality, safety, documentation and engineering standards. You are motivated by contributing to reliable and scalable hydrogen systems and by being part of a company with a clear role in the energy transition.
