About us
Metacon is building the hydrogen transition
Metacon develops and delivers hydrogen production systems that help turn the energy transition into working infrastructure.
Advanced hydrogen production technologies
Our offering includes electrolysis-based systems for green hydrogen production, as well as reforming technologies for hydrogen production from biogas and other hydrocarbons. We support customers with technology, engineering, automation, system integration and service.
Our commercial focus is on scalable hydrogen production systems for customers across industry, energy and transport. Typical projects range from pilot installations to larger multi-megawatt plants, depending on customer needs and energy availability.
Scalable systems for industrial use
Through our partnership with PERIC Hydrogen Technologies, Metacon offers alkaline electrolysis systems suitable for large-scale hydrogen production. This strengthens our ability to address projects where cost efficiency, proven technology and industrial manufacturing capability are key factors.
From biogas to low-emission hydrogen
In parallel, Metacon’s reforming technology enables hydrogen production from biogas and other hydrocarbons. This creates opportunities for a wide range of applications, including hydrogen production at biogas facilities, circular energy systems, and solutions such as ammonia cracking for shipping and other transport-related use cases.
Our focus is to enable customers to produce hydrogen where it is needed, using resources such as fossil-free electricity, biogas and other suitable energy carriers.
From project development to operation
We support customers from early project development and system design through to delivery, integration and long-term operation. We work with customers who need reliable hydrogen production close to where it is used, including applications in industry, energy systems and transport.
A Swedish hydrogen technology company
We were founded in Karlskoga, Sweden, in 2011 and have since developed our business around technologies for fossil-free and low-emission hydrogen production. Since September 2022, Metacon AB (publ) has been listed on Nasdaq First North Growth Market under the ticker META.

Metacon’s mission
Clear customer segments emerge for Metacon
The hydrogen market is moving from broad ambition to more selective, commercially grounded projects. Metacon’s focus is on customers with real demand, available energy and a clear need for reliable hydrogen production close to where it is used.
Our offering combines scalable alkaline electrolysis systems with reforming-based technologies, engineering, automation, integration and service. This allows us to support projects where cost efficiency, system reliability and practical implementation matter more than promises of future scale. We work with customers in industry, energy and transport, typically from early project development and system design through to delivery, integration and long-term operation.
Industry decarbonization
Industrial decarbonisation cannot wait for perfect conditions. Many of the world’s most essential processes still depend on fossil energy, high temperatures or hydrogen produced from natural gas. Replacing this with low-carbon hydrogen is one of the clearest routes to reducing emissions without slowing industrial production. Metacon delivers hydrogen production and system integration solutions for demanding industries such as refineries, chemicals, steel, ammonia and other energy-intensive sectors.
Renewable energy storage
Hydrogen can play an important role in energy systems with more renewable electricity. When wind and solar power produce more electricity than is needed at the moment, that electricity can be used to produce hydrogen. The hydrogen can then be stored, transported or used locally in industry, transport or power applications. Metacon’s technologies make it possible to connect hydrogen production with renewable energy and other parts of the energy system.
Heavy transport
Hydrogen can be a useful alternative for parts of the transport sector where batteries are difficult to use or where long range, high payloads and fast refuelling are important. This includes heavy trucks, buses, off-road vehicles and other demanding applications. Metacon provides solutions that can support local hydrogen production and refuelling, helping customers build the infrastructure needed to make hydrogen transport possible.
Resilience
Energy security is no longer a background issue. Hydrogen can help companies and communities produce more of the energy they need locally, using renewable electricity, biogas or other available resources. By turning local energy into local hydrogen, it becomes possible to reduce dependence on imported fuels, strengthen critical infrastructure and create more resilient industrial systems. Metacon provides technologies and integration capabilities that support local hydrogen production where reliability, flexibility and long-term control are essential.
